Xoom is much less than Western Union especially on small amounts like under $200 the fee is usually half that of Western Union (i.e. send $50 for only a $5 fee).  Even on larger amounts the savings are substantial and in many cases the locations are much more convenient as Equitable PCI Bank has branches in small towns and shopping areas all over The Philippines.  While you need Internet access and a bank account or credit/debit card to make a transaction, the recipient does not need either a bank account or Internet connection to get the money.  You will receive an email notification when the money has been delivered or picked up.

Jean, the best way to send money to the Philippines is through iKoBo, it is only $4.00 for $50.00 ... The recipient gets an ATM card that they can use in ATMs or as a debit card in stores... The transfer is instantaneous and no fee for converting from $ to Peso. Check it out!  That is what I use all the time now!

I recommend Ikobo when you will be sending money to the same person many times.  You can send money online using your current credit/debit card.  iKobo then sends the person receiving the money a Free Visa Debit Card (called an i-Kard).  This can take several days. The person receiving the money goes to any Visa Plus ATM to withdraw the cash, or uses it to purchase from any Visa merchant worldwide.  The i-Kard is re-usable. Once the person has an i-Kard, they can receive money from anyone, anywhere in the world - in less than 30 seconds. Of course there are transaction fees and a monthly maintenance fee for the card, so read the agreement carefully.    Go
